The Reef House Resort & Spa Style of Rooms

The distinctive hallways that wind through the tropical corridors are decorated with quality artifacts collected from all around the world. At night these hallways are lit by glowing candles portraying a scene of an ancient cherished past. Every night The Reef House Resort & Spa features 'twighlight hour' as the sun slowly descends beneath the horizon leaving shadows of Palm trees and the transpiring hum of waves crashing on the sandy shore. It is at this time that guests make their way to the infamous Brigadier's Bar, where over drinks and tropical punch travellers and management share stories, experiences and thoughts. This truly unique experience at Brigadier's Bar works on an honour system reflecting the appreciated informality of The Reef House Resort & Spa.

The accommodation at The Reef House Resort & Spa includes a variety of large spacious rooms and suites, all offering king size beds that are romantically draped in light muslin netting. The hotels white washed walls are swathed in bougainvillea, and all rooms feature a private verandah or patio, some having spas, allowing the guests to capture the indoor-outdoor lifestyle of the Cairns Tropics.

Brigadier Rooms are traditional hotel rooms and have a romantic love swing for couples to enjoy while breathing in the soft tropical air. Just perfect for that honeymoon.
Verandah Rooms are spacious and have large private verandahs with pool and garden views.
Verandah Spa Rooms are spacious Verandah Rooms with the added feature a spa bath on the Verandah.

There are family suites that sleep four people with a separate bedroom that has two single beds and The Endeavor Suite which has two separate bedrooms, ideal for two couples or families seeking more privacy.
Beachfront Suites have sweeping beach views with Palm trees swaying intermittently, a separate king sized bedroom and a separate living area.

Finally the premier Reef Suite has two bedrooms, each with an ensuite bathroom and feature king size beds (twin bedding is available on request). The ocean views are magnificent and the spacious design allows for privacy and comfort.

The Reef House Resort & Spa History

This out of the ordinary hotel was built in 1958 by a local book-maker who initially used the property as his private home. A swimming pool builder was heavily indebted to the book maker and as a means to repay him, built North Queensland's best swimming pool which still remains at The Reef House Resort & Spa.

In 1970 the property was purchased by a syndicate and transformed into a restuarant with a few exclusive guest suites. In 1972, Brigadier The Hon. David Thomson, MC, RL, (later Federal Minister for Science & Technology) bought the property and named it Reef House; it was operated as a guest house whereby they treated guests to personalised five star service where drinks from the bar were on an honour system and guests and staff mingled every evening. Although the resort has now grown to 69 rooms that spirit and service of The Reef House Resort & Spa has remained. Every guest staying at The Reef House Resort & Spa receives VIP treatment; an experience rarely found in up-market resorts.

The Reef House Resort & Spa has three magnificent swimming pools including the original pool, hidden amongst tropical gardens and featuring a waterfall. There is a boutique gift shop, internet access and full resort services such as room service, porter service and guest laundry.

The Reef House Resort & Spa also has conference facilities catering for up to 45 delegates and naturally makes an ideal romantic wedding, honeymoon or anniversary resort.

Reef House Restaurant
The Reef House Resort & Spa's restaurant has been awarded as one of the regions best for many years and features a spectacular setting overlooking the Coral Sea and extraordinary food. The extensive menu changes seasonally and offers an inspired collection of contemporary cuisine. The resort boasts a poolside café for more informal dining and the Brigadier’s honour bar that captures the charm and elegance of an era gone by.

Reef House Spa, integrates the special qualities of the Australian earth and spirit and has been named one of “The best 100 spas of the world” by Harpers and Queen UK magazine and is still considered as one of the top 10 day spas in Australia & the South Pacific. This wellness day spa which infuses aboriginal spirituality, healing methods and aromatherapy is one of the spas in Palm Cove that helped label the tiny seaside village a "Spa Capital of Australia".

Reef House Spa has several other accolades recognizing its treatments and services as voted by several worldwide publications and directly from consumers. Reef House Spa occupies a freestanding two-story building with 5 treatment rooms, two Vichy showers and a carved Melaleuca massage table, a Serenity Verandah, and two dual treatment rooms (each with a private Jacuzzi).
