Operation Rudolph 15 December 2007

Operation Rudolph and Palm Cove Christmas Carnival

15 December 2007

Operation Rudolph is a joint operation being undertaken by Far North Region based Police, Fire, Ambulance, SES and the general community. The proceeds of this activity will be given to the Cairns Base Hospital for use in the Oncology Department.

Operation Rudolph will be a massive convoy of emergency vehicles, estimates at this are that it will be a minimum of 40 vehicles including a pink Cadillac convertible for Santa's helpers, 2 black and White Sheriffs vehicles, and one massive Fire Service appliance that will dwarf all other vehicles on the road. This event starts at around 2:30pm at Cairns Base Hospital and the Palm Cove Christmas Festival kicks off at 5:30pm that same evening. The Convoy itself will weave from the centre of Cairns and some 5 hours later arrive at the Christmas Festival at the world renowned Palm Cove. Santa will be escorted on his journey, under lights and sirens, and he will be stopping along the way to hand out lollies, drinks etc to children.

The event will be receiving News coverage and advertising in the lead up to the event stating where and when you will be able to greet the convoy and what Events are occurring at the Palm Cove Christmas Festival.

The crew from Easy Listening 846 have already offered to donate their time for this event and they will be live for the duration of the convoy. As well advertising, promoting the event will be run jointly on Easy Listing 846 and 4CAFM. The Cairns Post has agreed to run a map outlining the convoy route and details as well as various stories to support this event.

The plan is to have the full convoy form up at 2:30pm and begin the merriment and fundraising no later than 2:45pm with around 21 stops between the Hospital and Palm Cove.

This year's Palm Cove Christmas carnival is brought to you by Bright Black AV and Cairns Conference Specialists two local companies who have worked and dedicated their time to the marketing of Palm Cove over a number of years. Colleen Were and Liam Elliston worked together to bring to the general public of Cairns the Palm Cove Fiesta in 2005, after the success of such a fantastic event when the opportunity was presented to them to donate our time to bring a close to Operation Rudolph on Saturday 15th December with a Carnival in Palm Cove they were keen to assist. This is the first year that the Operation Rudolph will end with a carnival style atmosphere in Palm Cove from 5.30pm until 9.30pm and it will be a fantastic family event with food stalls, market stalls, entertainment including the band Kick Start, street theatre sponsored by Indigo & Oceans Edge and even a pre-performance by the Palm Cove Carolers, sponsored by Tourism Palm Cove who wander through the Esplanade on Christmas Eve singing Christmas Carols to the diners in the beachfront Restaurants. There will also static display of the emergency vehicles on completion on Operation Rudolph at 8pm and a car show display throughout the evening supported by Auto Barn and Cars of Cairns, there is a chance that there may be a top classic car that has never been showed in Queensland before on display for this fund raising event. The event is a alcohol free event and there will be plenty for the family to do leading up to the arrival of the all important Parade of Lights "Operation Rudolph".
