All accommodation on Double Island offers privacy, exclusivity and lavishness. Accommodation consists of 10 Double Island Villas which all have a dual key option for a second bedroom. Double Island Villas have one bedroom, a self-contained kitchen, a spacious open planned living area and either a plunge pool or outdoor spa.

While visiting Double Island take advantage of the world-class facilities on the island. For a quiet day in paradise have a browse through the library or play a board game in the games room. A fitness centre is located right by the beach and there are dozens of walking trails around the island that explore through the islands nature and wildlife. The island offers internet access and a movie theatre with surround sound, and of course a relaxing salt water pool and spa.

For the active travellers there is a plethora of outdoor toys and natural playgrounds to indulge in. The island is stocked with catamarans, windsurfers, canoes, kayaks and, of course, the Great Barrier Reef is right in your front yard.

Double Island History

Double Island was discovered in 1848 by Captain Owen Stanley of HMS Rattlesnake while chartering the inner barrier reef. Before that Captain James Cook passed the island in the 1770s before running his ship into the Great Barrier Reef at Cape Tribulation. Even before this aboriginies are said to have inhabited Double Island for thousands of years, infact legend has it that Double Island is the resting place of the mythical Rainbow Serpent an aboriginal meta-physical being who controlled the worlds most precious resource; water.

Once Captain Owen discovered Double Island it was then transformed into a survey centre and received its name, Double Island, from the two mountainous peaks on either side of the tropical island. Years later Double Island became a retreat for miners and today the luxurious island operates as an exclusive tropical island retreat that caters for guests from around the world that desire a superior degree of luxury an opulance.

Location

Double Island is a short 10 minute ride by private launch from Palm Cove. Rich foliage covers the island and vast sandy beaches rim the coral shores.
