Beach Dining

Beachfront Takeaway

Along with its fantastic multi award-winning restaurants, Palm Cove also offers beachfront takeaway cafes, stores and a Mini Mart that all offer a huge variety of foods to suit all palletes.

You can dine on wood oven pizza, fresh baguettes, tropical salads, freshly made sandwiches, beautiful fish freshly caught from the reef with chips, cold locally produced organic yoghurts with tropical fruits, organic cheeses and biscuits from the Mini Mart and maybe a beautiful icy cold bottle of wine from the local Tavern or as we Australians say the Bottle Shop. Please note in Queensland liquor is only sold in Bottle Shops and not in the supermarket so dont miss out on trying out our local wines. And whilst here you have to try a famous Australian Meat Pie washed down with a high quality Australian beer they come in all varieties.

The Palm Cove Tavern or Bottle Shop is located on Veivers Road just across the road from the Angsana Resort & Spa and next door to the Grand Mercure Rockford Esplanade Hotel. If you cannot locate it just ask a local or another tourist.

The cafes cater for fussy eaters along with the more budget-conscious visitors or perhaps those just not in the mood for the full restaurant experience. The takeaway aspect allows meals to be enjoyed whilst sitting in the soft sand taking in the picturesque scenery of Palm Cove, Double Island and the Coral Sea.

Please note it is an offence to litter or dump rubbish in Australia; this includes cigarette butts, ice-cream wrappers, etc. Please ensure you put all your rubbish in the bins provided on the beachfront.

Each year the Keep Australia Beautiful foundation and the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) hold a Clean Beach Challenge and Palm Cove has won many of these Clean Beach Awards over a number of years, by far the most prestigious win for the small community being the winner of the inaugural Australia's Cleanest Beach award in 2003.

Free BBQs

Located along the beachfront of Palm Cove is a series of barbecues available for free use every day. A roof and shady trees protect all the barbecues from rain and sunshine. The Cairns City Council maintains the barbecues and replenishes the LPG (gas) bottles whenever they run low. To activate a barbecue, press the small red button on the side of the unit and a light will indicate its operation. The hotplate will heat up and will be ready for cooking after approximately 5 minutes. It will maintain heat for about 10 minutes. If you need additional time to cook your food, simply press the red button again. Please ensure you wipe the barbecue clean after use for the next Palm Cove visitor to enjoy.

Picnic Tables

The best way to enjoy your breakfast, lunch or dinner while at the beach without getting sand in your meal is by eating at one of the picnic tables provided on the grassy area near the beach. The tables are very sturdy and can accommodate 6 people comfortably. Please use the rubbish bins provided for your leftovers.

Beachfront Restaurant Dining

Palm Cove boasts some of the finest restaurants in all of Tropical North Queensland and regularly has visiting journalists from around the world doing write ups and rave reviews about the high standards and quality of both the chefs and the varieties of foods that are used and sourced locally from the Tablelands and the ocean. The restaurants and resorts have guest chefs from around Australia and sometimes now and again other parts of the world come to teach people how to cook up dinner parties and hold food and wine appreciation lunches and dinners which both the locals and holidaymakers are invited to join in.

Traditional food in Australia is clean and unadulterated by heavy sauces, and additives and all produce is fresh. The favourite Australian family and friends meal is the good old Aussie Barbecue with fresh seafood, and don't forget the prawns which are about 5 inches long on average and have very sweet meat (much bigger than the ones you find in lots of European countries) and Australian beef and of course our gourmet sausages with beautiful fresh salads to complement our outdoor lifestyle here in Australia.

Fish and chips (only high quality fish is used) and the traditional worker's meal, a meat pie with sauce, which comes in a variety of flavours like pie and peas, cottage pie (or shephard's pie to some), curry pie, chicken and vegetable pie, lamb and mint pie, beef pie and beef curry pie. So try one when you're here; there is an array of choice for you to choose from.

Take a stroll along the beachfront at Palm Cove at approximately 7pm on any night when all the visitors have come back in from their day's touring and have freshened up and you'll sense a buzz of excitement is in the air and be able to take in the enticing aromatic flavours flowing from the fine dining restaurants. The choice is dazzling. From Thai to Italian, Greek, Seafood, Asian influenced to modern contemporary Australian food, Palm Cove is a gastronomical diner's delight.

Here are some great Australian wines we would highly recommend you try whilst a visitor here in Australia:
